Fresthetic 5 year anniversary

Fresthetic was one of the first independent street wear stores that I visited upon moving to NYC. Coming from California, we're pretty well stocked when it comes to street wear stores and brands, so much that everything ultimately begins to all look the same. Fresthetic is like a breath of fresh air - a little space with a much different style and mix I'm typically not used to. No one associated with the store has their nose up in the air, not everyone listens to strictly hip hop and these guys are actually very involved with their community. It impressed me to say the least.

Shortly after first meeting Derreck (Deephunk), his girlfriend, Vanessa and their crew last summer, Mike and I assimilated to the norms of the group. We met Mikey, who is a part owner of Fresthetic, and thus kicked off our very first NYC summer experience at Makossa BK, an annual summer BBQ event [then] held at the store's back yard. Mike even got to host last year!

So this summer we were fortunate enough to attend their 5 year anniversary party, held this past Saturday at the store's back yard area, making us quite nostalgic of the first time Mike and I experienced a real New York summer. Our girl Tara was there DJ'in all night playing all the songs our hearts desired until we couldn't stand anymore. Mikey stood behind the grill all day BBQ'n until all the food ran out. Resident Fresthetic photographer John DeMato stayed with us as long as he could to capture the moments until we couldn't remember those moments anymore.

So yeah...it was fun. :)

By now you've probably noticed a bunch of people holding styrofoam cups and/or cups in paper bags by now, they are [very questionable] drinks from the Chinalatina place on the corner called New Apolo Restaurant. They've got a plethora of very dangerous concoctions that can easily get you tipsy as fast as 3 songs.

Really love this shot of my sleeve ;)

If you're wondering what's in those plastic cups, it's straight on rum.
No one knows what happened to those cups after this photo was taken.

And then we had pumpkin beer for dessert
