A weekend in New York

Earlier this month I had lost my camera battery at the movie theater, so I've been managing taking photos with my iPhone (which I'm surprised has a better quality than expected, especially for a camera phone).

My mom, Arieson and I decided to visit New York for the weekend, just because. It was the weekend after Thanksgiving, and my mom's birthday, so we thought we'd take advantage of the free time we all had concurrently. New York is my favorite place in the world, and I thought it would be nice for Arieson to see his mama's favorite spot. I loved our weekend stay, and so did Arieson. The air was so crisp and winter-like, unlike the warm sort-of-cool weather back in California. We rode the Staten Island ferry, and had some real New York pizza.

We stayed with my aunt and uncle, whose apartment is right across the NYSE. This is the view from their balcony.

The huge Christmas tree at Seaport, not far from my aunt and uncle's place. Arieson loved this tree (and trees), and I fell in love with Seaport. It's such a cute little village, and it was especially beautiful at night.

The subway stop outside my aunt and uncle's building.

I loved the globe display on this Hermès window. This store is right next to our building.

In between our building and the NYSE building. Little man in a big city.

On our way back to California

It's too bad there wasn't any snow when we went. I'm sure Arieson would have loved seeing the snow. I'm not too worried because I know there will be other times we'll be going back. Until then, NYC, see you another time!

SNL Digital Short: Get Out

I don't know if it was January Jones' poor hosting that enhanced the hilarity of this Digital Short or if Andy Samberg is just really that funny, but I could not stop laughing at this last night.

  • refer to girls as "breezies" ... wtf? i don't even...
  • TyPe LiKe ThIs ... seriously, grow up
  • misuse punctuation marks ... are all those exclamation marks necessary?
  • spell "your" like "ur" ... the letters are so close together. stp bng lzy
  • bend your knees when taking group photos ... you're already short
  • go clubbing ... that shit is lame sauce
  • use the "n" word ... dude, you're asian
  • complain about minuscule shit ... suck it up, bitch
  • talk like that ... do you think i'm someone else?

Indie Mart & Lovejoy's

I lost the battery to my dear precious camera Friday night, and didn't realize it until last night so I've been managing with the camera on my iPhone for now. It's actually not bad. I never realized how good the camera was on my phone until I started really really using it to take real photos. Pretty swell for a camera phone, I gotta say.

Indie Mart
was today at Thee Parkside, once again. It's their last outdoor mart before winter, and the city was absolutely lovely today. I had so much fun the last time I went that I had to go again today and bring some friends along to share in the greatness. There were a lot more people at today's mart. I didn't spend as much as I did last time, and I'm proud of myself for not splurging on all the cute little things. At the same time, I wasn't into too many vendors this time around as I was the last. One vendor in particular caught my eye instantly, and I fell in love. Paper Pastries is a stationary store inspired by none other than...desserts! I love stationary, probably more than you know, and who doesn't love pastries? One of the other things I really really love about Indie Mart is to see how each vendor merchandises their booths. It's great to see how they translate their inspiration into a mini store and how creative everyone gets. It's one of the things I love about indie, vintage fashion. It forces you to be different and unique and creative. The things I got today were too cute to not take photos:

Paper Pastries stationary
I bought these cute book tag stickers that have little ice creams on them, and a hand made Christmas card for Noah Biorkman.

I bought this toddler tie for Arieson mainly for the little owl pendant :)

I'm beginning to start a collection of vintage sunglasses. This is the fourth I've bought this year, and these were only $7 with a case!

Cosby inspired cowl neck scarf
I couldn't resist the triangles.

After Indie Mart, we headed to Lovejoy's Tea Room in Noe Valley. This place was so popular today that the wait was an hour and a half! Normally we'd decide on another place to eat especially with our hungry stomachs growling at us, but Sherrie and I knew this place was worth the wait. We spent our time wisely. We hopped into Leenna's car and headed to the Sewerd Street Slides nearby.

Leenna has the Zack Morris phone in her car!

The slides!

All the used cardboard from the fuckery

An hour and a half was a lot of time to kill. What do you do when you live in San Francisco and have a butt load of time to spend? Go to Dolores, of course. Because of the great weather out today, there was a clusterfuck of hipsters out. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, but hey, Dolores always seems to be the default spot and it always works.

While sitting on the grass, people watching, Lovejoy's called me and told me that they had a cancellation and that a table was ready for us a half hour early. We all quickly jumped up and headed back to the Tea House. It was Leenna, David and Jean Michel's first time at Lovejoy's while Sherrie and I were jumping in our seats for the mere excitement of the food and mood that the Tea House seems to bring.

Such a feast!

It's been too long since I've written a Sunday post last. Without any regard in today's sequence of events, I'd say that Sundays are back to being the way they were before; the way they should be.

Thanks for a wonderful day today, Sunday. Good to see you again.

Halloween 2009

This year Halloween conveniently landed on a Saturday, which was booming news to a city that loves to play dress up. The thing I love most every year is the challenge in coming up with a unique get up for the festivities. Dressing like a total slut and calling your self a sexy-whatever on Halloween is by far over. Get creative people! Seriously.

Our initial plan for Halloween was to dress in drag. I would be David Bowie and Sherrie would be Prince. As usual, we procrastinated, so we ended up dressing in what was accessible at the moment. Sherrie and Maggine were condom fairies, from boxes of left over condoms and tulle, and I was Vampire Beetlejuice. We had no big plans for Halloween, but we knew that we wanted to show off our costumes and get ride of condoms so we went out anyway. First we stopped at a house party in the Excelsior that a friend from college was throwing. We passed out condoms to a crowd who was already wasted, grabbed the left over liquor lying around and left for the SoMA.

Vampire Beetlejuice and her Condom Fairies
We promote safe sex!

Our destination was DNA lounge. After we found parking and started walking, we were distracted by the abundance of freaks in the streets and decided to pass out condoms instead. There were enough people out that we were convinced that the clubs would be lame to even get in to. At this point, the liquor had already started to kick in nicely and our pass-out turned into a stuff-it-in-their-pockets-and-costumes-while-having-short-conversations-on-the-way. Everyone was so happy to get free condoms that I'm sure we saved some lives that night!

We somehow ended up outside Holy Cow and found out that there wasn't a cover so me and the fairies walked in and had another drink to tie us over. The place was so crowded, but we took advantage of the volume and passed out more condoms to the people inside. I was actually surprised the bouncer let us in with our huge brown paper bags!

We left Holy Cow soon after to go to Butter for some bar food. I've been to Butter once before, and what makes this place awesome is that they sell tall cans, 40's and fried twinkies on top of their already cheap drinks and killer bar food. We had mini corn dogs and more liquor. At this point of the night, everyone was feeling good.

Last call was approaching so we left to pick up Jean-Michel downtown. On the way back home we decided to take the long way so that we could pass out more condoms. I remember complaining how early SF sleeps compared to NY, and then smiling. At this point of the night with more liquor in our system, we instead threw condoms at pedestrians while screaming "safe sex" at them. I'm surprised we didn't get pulled over by the cops from all the litter and screaming we were doing. At the same time, it felt good...to get rid of all those condoms and know that more than half of the people that got them would be using them!

I really wish I was able to catch more footage of my Halloween. It's too bad we didn't have a photographer following us around that night...sike! It was fucking awesome the way it was.
